Why we have to address this?

How does PPWR connect with supply chains?

The PPWR introduces Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) obligations for the B2B sector, along with broader requirements for recyclability, packaging design, minimisation of empty space, and, most importantly, material compliance. From August 2026, all packaging must be appropriately labelled.

A key prerequisite for successfully meeting these requirements is identifying your company's role under the Regulation, together with close collaboration with suppliers and effective supply chain management.

Beyond the existing restrictions on heavy metals, the PPWR introduces requirements related to PFAS and adopts the definition of Substances of Concern (SoC) from the ESPR framework. This definition includes:

A broad range of substances defined under the EU CLP Regulation (approximately 3,250 substances and substance groups)

SVHC substances defined under the EU REACH Regulation (253 substances and substance groups)

Substances restricted under the POPs Regulation (34 substances and substance groups)

Substances that negatively affect reuse and recyclability (to be defined by implementing legislation)
